Human papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Initiation

Vaccinating against Human papillomavirus (HPV) protects against infections that can lead to certain cancers, protects against abnormal cells that can lead to cancer (precancers) and the lasting effects of testing and treatment for these precancers and protects your child long before they are ever exposed to cancer-causing infections.

HPV vaccine series initiation is starting the vaccination series. HPV vaccines can be given starting at age 9 years. The best practice is to view the initiation rates at discrete ages (at 9 years, 10 years, etc.) rather than age ranges (9-11 years, 11-13 years), as it would provide a true reflection on when patients get their first dose.

In 2023, in Alachua County, the percent of population of Human papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Initiation age 11 was 34.7 compared to Florida at 38.5 for all modes of exposure and age groups. The line graph shows change over time when there are at least three years of data.
