Mental disorders include mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use; schizophrenia, schizotypal, delusional and other non-mood phychotic disorders; mood disorders; and anxiety, dissociative, stress-related, somatoform and other non-psychotic mental disorders.Mental disorders, when serious and untreated, can cause significant morbidity, reduced quality of life, numerous hospitalizations and a burden to the local healthcare system. Mood disorders are particularly important contributors to disability-adjusted life years lost and to years lived with disability.
