Meningococcal Disease 
Meningococcal disease refers to any illness caused by bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis, also known as meningococcus. These illnesses are often severe and can be deadly. They include infections of the lining of the brain and spinal cord (meningitis) and bloodstream infections (bacteremia or septicemia). Doctors treat meningococcal disease with antibiotics, but quick medical attention is extremely important. Keeping up to date with recommended vaccines is the best defense against meningococcal disease.

Meningococcal Disease is monitored to prevent and control outbreaks.

In 2022, the rate per 100,000 of Meningococcal Disease in Alachua County was 0.3 compared to Florida at 0.3. The line graph shows change over time when there are at least three years of data.
