Population Dashboard

The Population Dashboard provides an analysis of population trends for more than 45 years. Maps, graphs, and charts depict population growth since 1970 by age, race, ethnicity, and sex. All files can be downloaded to excel and are available in .pdf format for convenient printing.

Data by race are shown for white, black and other races. Other races include Asian, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Two or More Races. Data by ethnicity are shown for Hispanic and non-Hispanic starting in 2004.

Data shown in this Dashboard originated from the Florida Legislature, Office of Economic and Demographic Research. All data are population estimates as of July 1st for each year.

The racial makeup of Florida has had little change over the last 50 years. In 1970, the White population represented 84.3% of the population in Florida, compared to 76.61% in 2024. The Black population in 1970 represented 15.3% of the population, whereas in 2024 that percentage increased to 16.98%. The Other population was hardly noted in 1970, with less than 1% represented (0.4%). In 2023, their presence is recorded at 6.41%, a large jump from 1970. Other, in this Dashboard, encompasses all other races besides White and Black.

In 2024, Florida’s ethnic makeup was 27.53% Hispanic and 72.47% non-Hispanic. In this Dashboard, Hispanic follows the same definition as the US Census Bureau, which counts persons of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
